Rachel, the adopted daughter of the Shang family, spends years trying to win the affection of brothers Bender, Edmund, and Harrison, only to face constant contempt while they mistakenly lavish attention on Shirley, a servant's daughter. Heartbroken, Rachel chooses to marry Spencer, the brothers' younger uncle, but on their wedding day, the brothers cause a scene believing she is forcing the marriage until Spencer intervenes to protect her. The brothers then realize Spencer is the groom and eventually discover that Rachel was the true savior they had been looking for all along.
