  Feel-good, light-hearted friends to lovers vertical

  If Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me music video became a full feature, this would basically be it. Super cute.

  Special props to Elijah Townsend, who I super loved as a character. He never forced himself on Skyler and even ends up being such a cool friend to both her and Jamie. Would want to be his friend, too.

  OVERRATED!

  People say this is good? Well I disagree. For me this just felt like a poor man's "Breaking The Ice" on a football field. Fumbled on the one yard line for sure. Pass.

  Pretty Predictable

  I went into The Quarterback Next Door expecting a fun, cheesy high-school romance, but it ended up feeling pretty predictable. The story follows Skylar, the “invisible” nerdy girl who’s had a crush on the popular quarterback Jamie forever, and of course circumstances end up pushing them together. When Jamie’s house burns down and he ends up living next door (and basically in her life), the whole thing turns into the classic popular-guy-falls-for-the-underdog setup.

  The problem is that it never really does anything interesting with that premise. The characters feel very one-note—the bully cheerleader is exactly the kind of cartoon villain you expect, and the romance plays out in a super obvious way. The pacing is fast like most ReelShort dramas, but instead of feeling exciting, it sometimes feels rushed, like scenes are just there to move to the next cliffhanger rather than actually build the relationship.
